At Northern Idaho Advanced Care Hospital,we provide critical care services to patients who are recovering from serious illnesses or injuries. Often these individuals require additional critical care services for medically complex conditions such as trauma, infectious diseases, wound healing, cardiovascular disease, stroke, amputations, and respiratory failure.
Critical Care Services
Northern Idaho Advanced Care Hospital features all private rooms, including a 4-bed high-observation unit. All rooms are monitored and include state-of-the art specialty beds, cardiac monitoring equipment, and any specialty equipment needed, including ventilators. The hospital also includes well-equipped therapy areas such as a 6,000-square foot therapy gym with private treatment rooms and a heated aquatic therapy pool with an electric lift.

How We Provide Care
Our medical professionals work as a team to provide more intensive services to our patients than what is normally provided in an acute hospital setting. Our critical care team consists of physicians, nurses, therapists, specialists, pharmacists and other highly trained medical professionals. It is led by our full-time medical director.
We tailor our medical services to the complex needs of our patients, creating a personalized plan of care that is guided by the patient’s attending physician and coordinated with consulting specialists when necessary.
Our patients receive 24-hour nursing and respiratory care services with daily physician management.
Other services we provide include:
- Speech, memory and cognitive therapy
- Physical therapy
- Occupational therapy
- Aquatic therapy water-based treatments
- Pain management
- Dysphagia management
- Ventilator weaning
- Wound Care
We also provide outpatient services to patients who are no longer required to be in the hospital, but still need physical, occupational and/or speech therapy to help them continue to recover fully.
Support Groups
In addition, we offer support groups for patients and caregivers to expand treatment and to allow those with common challenges to share experiences, explore resources, encourage one another, and to help teach each other how to best navigate their circumstances.
Currently, we host the Community Spinal Cord Injury Support group for patients and family members to learn about resources and share experiences with others who have spinal cord injuries.

Why Critical Care?
Most people who need inpatient hospital services are admitted to an “acute care” hospital for a relatively short amount of time. But patients with medically complex conditions may be referred to a critical care hospital — which is also certified as an acute hospital — for continued care beyond their original hospital stay.
This type of patient is transferred from an acute hospital’s intensive or critical care unit to a critical care hospital like Northern Idaho Advanced Care Hospital to receive additional critical care services. Critical care hospitals specialize in treating patients who may have more than one serious condition, but who may improve with time and care and return home.
