Meet Our Leaders

Shane Sanborn, PT, DPT, MBA, ACHE | Chief Executive Officer

Shane brings more than 15 years of diverse clinical and leadership experience to Northern Idaho Advanced Care Hospital. He has clinically practiced and served as a physical therapist in long-term acute care, pediatrics, cardiopulmonary rehabilitation, inpatient acute care, sub-acute care, and sports medicine.

Shane held numerous administrative and managerial positions before arriving at Northern Idaho Advanced Care Hospital, recently as a regional administrator at several acute care hospitals in Florida.

Shane obtained a doctoral degree in physical therapy, a master’s degree with a focus on healthcare management, and a bachelor’s degree in exercise physiology, psychology, and chemistry.

Although Shane is a Florida native, he feels right at home here in north Idaho because of the people that make it special to live here. He and his family look forward to enjoying all the activities the area has to offer and engaging in the community.

Dr. Kevin Chang | Medical Director

Dr. Chang brings more than 30 years of medical experience to his position here at Northern Idaho Advanced Care Hospital. As a Diplomat of the American Board of Internal Medicine, he is board-certified in internal medicine, pulmonary medicine, and critical care. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry from Creighton University, as well as a medical degree from Creighton University in 1993, with internship (1994), residency in internal medicine (1996), fellowship in pulmonary medicine (1998), and fellowship in critical care medicine (1999) at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.

Dr. Chang worked in pulmonary and critical care services at hospitals in Nebraska and South Dakota before moving to Idaho. He is currently a member of the American Medical Association, American Thoracic Society, American College of Chest Physicians, and the Society of Critical Care Medicine. In addition to being the medical director for our hospital, Dr. Chang practices in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, at Kootenai Clinic – Lung & Asthma.

Dara Kimery, DNP, MSN/ED, RN, NPD-BC | Chief Nursing Officer

Dara is a registered nurse and comes to Ernest Health with over 20 years of nursing experience in critical care, trauma, education, clinical operations, and leadership. Her experience and knowledge have given her the ability to lead staff effectively through a transformational model. She is an organizational change agent with a penchant for building healthy cultures in the workplace.

Dara holds a doctorate in nursing practice with a focus in leadership. She has a certificate in nursing professional development and serves as a member of the senior leadership team to deliver expert oversight, supervision, and accountability for quality, efficient, and safe patient care. She has a passion for teaching the next generation of nursing. Dara also serves as adjunct faculty for an area nursing college where she has been an invited guest as their keynote speaker during various nurse pinning ceremonies over the years.

During off hours, Dara enjoys gardening, hiking, camping, and spending time with her family and three grandchildren. Fun fact: expert tree climber, most notably coconut trees.

Jennifer West, RN | Director of Patient Outcomes

Jennifer says she became a nurse because her mother was a nurse.  As a second-generation nurse, she learned what compassion was and how to be a part of the nurturing and healing process of patients initially through observation.

Jennifer brings more than 20 years of varied experience to the hospital, with a background in nursing, critical care, surgery, infection control, and compliance. She ensures that our patients are cared for in a secure and safe environment.

Jennifer earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing and a master’s degree in nursing from the University of Phoenix. She is involved with North Idaho Prevention Coalition and the North Idaho Healthcare Coalition. She also is a member of the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses and the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology.

Jennifer says Ernest Health’s guiding principle, “We are compassionate caregivers, connected at our core by the treatment needs of our patients,” resounds deeply with her because of the compassion caregivers have and the interconnectivity Ernest Health’s treatment teams have. “This guiding principle is visible in everyone whom I work with,” she says. “We can take patients that are so broken by trauma and disease, and with our treatment, get them back to their lives.”

Jennifer enjoys camping in the beautiful wilderness of Idaho with her family and friends.

Jaclyn Andrews, MSN, RN | Director of Clinical Compliance

Jaclyn wanted to become a nurse to make a difference in people’s lives. Nursing offers an endless opportunity for learning. Jaclyn is a strong advocate for education and learning to do a job well.

Jaclyn started her career journey as a certified nursing assistant, went on to nursing school, and graduated in December 2013 with a Bachelor of Science in nursing. She conferred her Master of Science in nursing leadership and education in December 2017. Jaclyn participated in the St. Mary’s New Graduate Program and had been an RN within St. Mary’s Hospital in Colorado for a little over five years before relocating to northern Idaho in 2018. She worked in the intensive care unit, cardiovascular ICU, neuro/trauma/stroke unit, telemetry, and float pool. Further on in her career, she became the nursing educator, compliance, and infection control specialist over rehabilitation, ortho-spine, and neuro/trauma/stroke unit. She also had a wonderful experience as an instructor in nursing studies for Colorado Mesa University.

Jaclyn is involved in the North Idaho Prevention Coalition. She is a member of the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology and Sigma Theta Tau, an Honor Society of Nurses.

She is married to a respiratory rherapist. They have three children and enjoy taking advantage of nature every chance they get. You may see them boating or camping throughout the year.

Kiley Katsantonis | Market Human Resources Manager

Kiley is responsible for the overall administration and evaluation of the human resources department at Northern Idaho Advanced Care Hospital and Rehabilitation Hospital of the Northwest.

With seven years of experience, Kiley has held several management positions as a human resources professional. Most recently, serving as a human resources director at Secured Investment Corp.

Kiley earned a master’s in legal studies from Pepperdine Caruso School of Law and will attend Gonzaga University School of Law to achieve her Juris Doctorate.

When Kiley is not working, she enjoys spending time with her husband. They enjoy the outdoors: playing sand volleyball, cycling, golfing, hiking, and snowboarding together.

Amber Madden | Director of Therapy Operations

Amber has chosen to work at Northern Idaho Advanced Care Hospital due to her love of treating acute care patients. She loves seeing the progression of a patient, starting from bedrest to walking out the front doors of the hospital. Amber strives to provide an evidence-based approach to progressing a patient’s functional mobility. She provides a gentle but firm approach while motivating patients to push themselves to reach their potential. Her educational background includes a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology and a Masters in physical therapy from California State University-Fresno. She also holds a certificate as a Certified Lymphedema Therapist.

Amber and her family moved to the area from Lewiston, ID, after a short time working at Tri-State Hospital and providing home health physical therapy services. When not working, Amber enjoys hanging out with her husband and two daughters. They enjoy the outdoors, fishing, boating, camping, and working on their little home farm.

Dan Leonard | Director of Plant Operations

Dan brings 30 years of project management and leadership to the table, 15 of those years in healthcare. His experience in all phases of commercial construction has prepared him well for his role at NIACH.

A lifelong resident of the Northwest, Dan attended the Lakeland school district and DeVry Institute. His certifications are as an ALS Locksmith, ABC project manager, 12-hour OSHA, FEMA emergency management, and BLS. He is also a member of the Healthcare Coalition.

Dan and his wife of 34 years, Pam, have two children, Ryan and Kara. They have two grandchildren, Clint and Kimber. Dan and Pam live on a ranch with horses and livestock. They love to travel and ride motorcycles.

Shawna Sadler, PharmD| Director of Pharmacy

Shawna enjoys working at Northern Idaho Advanced Care Hospital because of the opportunity to optimize the patient’s pharmaceutical regimens and see the patient’s progress over several weeks of their stay. Shawna grew up in Kalispell, MT, and received her graduate degree from the University of Montana. She continues to participate in the KAAPA PSI graduate program at the UofM. She attended undergraduate school at Rocky Mountain College in Billings, MT.

Shawna worked at NIACH prior to being promoted to director of pharmacy and has experience working as a pharmacist in the outpatient setting.

When Shawna is not working, she enjoys playing with her young daughter and being outdoors hunting, fishing, and golfing with her family. 

Amy Colbert, LSW, | Director of Marketing and Business Development

Amy brings over 25 years of inpatient hospital experience, all from right here in Kootenai County. A medical social worker by trade, she brings her passion for advocating for patients and community health education together to help bring our world-class care to our community residents and surrounding areas. Amy grew up in our community and has built relationships across the healthcare continuum and continues to work with our community healthcare partners to bring the right care at the right time and in the right place to our patients in the region.

Amy enjoys spending time with her family and grandchildren as well as traveling, being on the water, in the mountains, and enjoying everything our area has to offer.

Tammy Evanson | Administrative Assistant/Medical Staff Services

Tammy provides administrative support to the leadership team as well as the role of medical staff services/physician credentialing.

Tammy spent 30 years in the retail industry, with most of those in a management role. When her company closed, she accepted it as an opportunity to move on to something she had always wanted to do, which was to find a place in the medical field. While attending school, she accepted her first position at NIACH as a health unit coordinator in 2006. Once she graduated, she transitioned into her current role.

Tammy was born and raised in the Post Falls /Coeur d’Alene, Idaho area and has been married for 36 years to her husband, Bill. She has two grown children, Carly and Leah, and her first grandson, Fletcher.

She enjoys spending time with her family, cooking, camping, and traveling.
